Coaxial loudspeaker

Coaxial speakers (also known as coax) are usually 2-way speakers with a midrange driver and a tweeter mounted directly in the axis. In most coaxial loudspeakers, the only crossover is a capacitor (hidden) which only protects the tweeter from low frequencies. The mid/woofer cone receives the entire frequency band.

2-way coaxial loudspeakersThese coaxial loudspeakers are usually used to reduce the installation effort, as there is only one loudspeaker to install on each side and there is no need for an additional crossover.

Due to their design, coax loudspeakers are not ideal if the installation location is in the lower door section or in the footwell, as the tweeter has a very high attenuation due to its directional characteristics if it cannot radiate directly at the driver. Click here for the coax speakers

Component loudspeakers

Component loudspeakers (also known as compos) always consist of several components such as a woofer, tweeter and crossover. With compos you can achieve a much better sound in the car, as the tweeter and the midrange/woofer can now be mounted separately in the appropriate places. The crossover must now also be fitted, but the high-quality components of the crossover mean that additional sound improvements can be expected.

2-way compo speakersWith woofers/midrange speakers, the directional characteristic is not as strong as with tweeters, and therefore it is also justifiable in terms of sound if the woofer/midrange speaker is mounted in the footwell or in the lower area of the door. In most cars, the installation slots are already predefined.

Which speaker size do I need for my car?

We offer all common sizes from 8.7cm, 10cm, 13cm, 16cm, 16.5cm and 20cm

The best way to find out which speaker size you need is to remove the speaker that is already fitted and measure the size of the old speaker with a meter. The most common size is the 16cm speaker, which is installed in most VW models. In older BMW models it is the 13cm speaker. In the "Speakers" category, you will also find filters that you can use to select the size, type or location and price of your speakers.

Extra flat speakers

In some cases, it is necessary to choose extra flat speakers if the installation depth of the speakers is very shallow.

Some manufacturers have opted for a different speaker design for this purpose. Small but also powerful neodymium magnets are used and the depth of the speaker can therefore be reduced. Find extra flat speakers here

Why is door insulation the most important thing when installing your speakers?

Even the best speaker only sounds as good as it is installed. Sheet metal and trim parts inevitably resonate and thus reduce the sound. Various insulating materials such as aluminum butyl, insulating fleece and bitumen tape are available to quiet vibrating parts.
