The matching between your subwoofer and your power amplifier is important. The impedance (number of ohms) and power are crucial. Both should be feasible with the capabilities of your power amplifier. If your woofer has an impedance of 2 ohms, then the power amplifier should also be capable of 2 ohms on the bridge circuit. There are also subwoofers with 1 Ohm impedance, e.g. a subwoofer with a double voice coil with 2 Ohm each. This means that you also need an amplifier that can handle loads of up to 1 ohm. It is recommended that the power available should be slightly higher than the power rating of the woofer.

How do you find the right amplifier?

2-channel amplifier

If, for example, you only want to give your front speaker system more power, then use a 2-channel amplifier, which may also have a little more power than your speaker system is specified. For example, if you have a loudspeaker system with a specified load capacity of approx. 75 watts, then your power amplifier can also have up to 100 watts per channel. This will allow you to provide a good quality signal, at least up to the speaker load limit, and there will be no clipping on the signal because the amplifier is running at its limit.
You also get incredibly better dynamics with more power from a power amplifier, so that you get goosebumps when listening to a great piece of music because you think you're there live!

4-channel amplifier

If, for example, you have installed new front speakers and would also like to operate a subwoofer, then we recommend a 4-channel power amplifier so that you can operate the front speakers with 2 channels and then connect the subwoofer (bridged) with the other 2 channels. This 4-channel power amplifier then covers all the necessary components of the system and you only need to install one device. Tip: Choose a power amplifier that has sufficient power reserves so that you always get the full sound dynamics.

Multi-channel amplifier

If you want to operate a front system, a rear system and a subwoofer, for example, then we recommend a multi-channel power amplifier. With these 6 channels, you are able to connect all speakers to a single power amplifier (simpler installation than 2 power amplifiers).

Monoblock for subwoofers

The monoblock is specially designed to drive a subwoofer. These power amplifiers usually have a particularly high damping factor (good control for the subwoofer and tight bass) and also have more power available for the subwoofer. However, this 1-channel power amplifier is also only intended for the subwoofer.

Using a 4-channel power amplifier and a monoblock

If you are operating a power-hungry subwoofer and you do not need as much power as the normal mid/high-range speakers, then the only option is usually to install 2 power amplifiers. The 4-channel power amplifier now operates the front and rear system and the monoblock operates the subwoofer with the appropriate higher power. For extensive systems, we recommend that you install a power cap / capacitor for a stable power supply, which optimally buffers the impulse current consumption of the power amplifiers. This allows the power amplifier to achieve full power and a clean signal so that the sound is clear and brilliant.
